Civil Connect PLC acknowledges that the climate crisis is the defining challenge of our time. As a specialist provider of critical infrastructure solutions, we recognize our responsibility to minimize the environmental impact of our operations. We are committed to achieving Net Zero Carbon emissions by 2040, a decade ahead of the UK government’s target.
This policy applies to all business units, including Civil Connect Subsurface Solutions delivery teams. It governs our approach to managing carbon emissions across our direct operations (Scope 1 & 2) and our wider supply chain (Scope 3).
We are committed to the principles of PAS 2080 (Carbon Management in Infrastructure). We view carbon not just as an environmental metric, but as a proxy for efficiency. Our “Find & Fix” philosophy is inherently low-carbon: by using precision data to minimize unnecessary excavation, we reduce material usage, fuel consumption, and waste.
To deliver on our commitment, Civil Connect PLC will:
Measure & Monitor: Calculate our carbon footprint annually in accordance with the Greenhouse Gas Protocol and Streamlined Energy and Carbon Reporting (SECR) regulations.
Reduce Operational Energy: Transition our fleet and site plant to electric and hybrid alternatives where feasible, aiming for a 50% reduction in Scope 1 emissions by 2030.
Innovate for Sustainability: Prioritize Trenchless Technology and “No-Dig” repair methods over traditional open-cut excavation, significantly reducing the embodied carbon of asphalt, concrete, and aggregate imports.
Digitize to Decarbonize: Leverage our “Digital Twin” and ROV inspection capabilities to extend the lifespan of existing assets, delaying the carbon-intensive need for new construction.
Engage the Supply Chain: As a Buyer, we will actively prefer suppliers and subcontractors who demonstrate verified carbon reduction plans and who can provide Environmental Product Declarations (EPDs) for materials.
| Impact Area | Target | Strategy |
| Fleet & Transport | 40% reduction in fleet emissions | Transition to EV vans; telematics to optimize routes; promotion of remote surveying to reduce site travel. |
| Site Operations | 100% renewable electricity | Mandate renewable energy tariffs for all depots and temporary site connections; phase out diesel generators in favor of hybrid/battery power. |
| Materials | 25% reduction in embodied carbon | Specify low-carbon concrete and recycled aggregates; utilize CIPP (Cured-in-Place Pipe) lining to repair rather than replace. |
| Waste | Zero waste to landfill | strictly enforce site waste management plans (SWMPs) prioritizing reuse and recycling. |
The Board of Directors (led by the Chairperson) has overall accountability for this policy and for ensuring adequate resources are available for its implementation.
The Managing Director is responsible for the day-to-day execution of carbon reduction strategies and integration into operational procedures.
Project Managers are responsible for ensuring that carbon efficiency is considered during the planning (“Find”) and delivery (“Fix”) phases of every project.
All Employees and Subcontractors are required to adhere to this policy and support our energy-saving initiatives.
We will transparently report our progress against these targets in our Annual Report. Our carbon data will be independently verified to ensure accuracy and build trust with our clients and stakeholders.
This policy will be reviewed annually to ensure it remains relevant, ambitious, and compliant with evolving legislation and industry standards (including ISO 14001).
