What is a Soakaway?
A soakaway is essentially an underground drainage system designed to manage surface water runoff, typically from rainfall on roofs and paved areas. It works by collecting the excess water and allowing it to percolate slowly back into the surrounding ground, a process known as infiltration. This mimics natural drainage patterns and prevents overwhelming public sewer systems.
Think of it like a large, underground sponge. Instead of letting rainwater flood your property or overwhelm drains, the soakaway holds it and releases it gently back into the earth. It is a key component of a Sustainable Drainage System (SuDS).

System Design & Specification: Based on the test results, we design a custom soakaway system, often using modern modular geocellular crates, which are strong, have a large void ratio, and are easy to install.
Excavation & Installation: Our experienced team excavates the area to the required dimensions, lines the pit with a geotextile membrane to prevent silt contamination, and expertly installs the soakaway crates.
Connection & Backfilling: We connect the necessary pipework from your property’s surface water drains and then carefully backfill the excavation, ensuring the system is secure and stable.
Final Inspection & Reinstatement: Upon completion, we conduct a thorough inspection and reinstate the ground surface, leaving your property clean and tidy.
